Data gathered through the survey from private sector employees will be used by RTA to identify opportunities to optimize traffic flow and reduce congestion.
In a bid to ease Dubai’s traffic congestion woes, the Road, and Transport Authority (RTA) is seeking feedback from motorists to tackle the issue head-on.
The RTA has launched a comprehensive survey aimed at private sector employees which seeks to gather insights into traffic movement patterns, specifically exploring the potential impact of flexible work hours and remote working arrangements.
The transport authority wrote: “The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in cooperation with other relevant entities in Dubai, is undertaking (as part of its efforts to manage traffic movement and reduce traffic congestion) a study to understand the current situation in the private sector in relation to ‘flexible work hours’ and ‘remote working’.”
An RTA representative informed Khaleej Times that the RTA intends to gain a better understanding of commuting patterns and work preferences among private sector employees through the survey, enabling them to identify strategies to improve traffic flow and alleviate congestion.
To encourage participation, the RTA mentioned that survey respondents will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw upon completion. Residents participating in the study can optionally provide their name, phone number, or email address in the designated area. The RTA ensured that this information will be kept confidential and solely utilized for research purposes.
Participants will be queried about the number of official working days per week and hours per day, as well as whether their company adopts a flexible start window for work and if a remote work policy exists.
Additionally, respondents will be invited to provide feedback on other potential work policies, including compressed work schedules.
As per the RTA, the input received will contribute to expanding the adoption of ‘flexible work hours’ and ‘remote working’ strategies, recognizing their potential to alleviate traffic congestion, particularly during peak periods.
As Dubai solidifies its position as a global business center, the strain on its transportation infrastructure has become more evident. Congestion during rush hours not only impacts residents’ well-being but also presents obstacles to economic efficiency and environmental sustainability.
