Ongoing Development Initiatives to Boost Traffic Efficiency, Plans Encompass Completion of Numerous Projects for Improved Flow Across 31 Sites
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) successfully finished enhancing traffic conditions at 14 locations in 2023. These improvements have significantly cut travel time by 60% in some areas and increased the capacity of many roads by up to 25%. As part of RTA’s Quick Traffic Improvements Plan, they are working on 45 solutions to address traffic issues throughout the emirate in 2023-2024.
In 2023, notable traffic upgrades were implemented, including the expansion of the free right exit from Al Asayel Street to Financial Centre Street leadin
g to Al Khail Road. This enhancement, which doubled the exit’s capacity and reduced travel time from Business Bay to Financial Centre Street from 5 to just 1 minute, significantly improved traffic flow.
Additionally, substantial enhancements on Al Fay Street introduced multiple lanes to the roundabout and utilized the existing bridge to alleviate congestion and boost traffic circulation. As a result, travel times for both entering and exiting the Dubai Production District and Dubai Sports City District were reduced by 50%.
In 2023, the RTA took steps to improve traffic, including introducing a new free exit from Al-Saba Street to Garn Al Sabkha Street toward Dubai Marina. This move significantly eased congestion and reduced travel times in the area by approximately 60%.
Moreover, a traffic solution was implemented at the Umm Suqeim Street and Al-Asayel Street intersection, expanding the free right exit from Al Asayel Street to Umm Suqeim Street and creating a dedicated U-turn on Umm Suqeim Street for traffic from Al Khail Road. These actions shortened the travel time from exiting Al Barsha to Umm Suqeim Street en route to Al Khail Road, reducing it from 15 minutes to just 5 minutes.
Actions were taken to enhance traffic flow, such as expanding the right-hand exit from Al Rebat Street to Business Bay Crossing from one lane to three. Equipping it with traffic lights increased capacity, leading to improved traffic service. These steps effectively eliminated queues on Al Rebat Street, reduced traffic overlap, and raised safety standards.
Additionally, the exit on Emirates Road towards the Maliha Street intersection (Exit 71) underwent widening from two lanes to three. This upgrade increased the exit’s capacity from 4,000 vehicles per hour to 6,000 per hour, contributing to enhanced traffic circulation in the vicinity.
